"Hotel weddings Houston" and its variants make up one of the larger city clusters in our keyword map, spread across a string of phrasings that all mean the same thing. The weather argues for a hotel here: an air-conditioned ballroom with guests sleeping upstairs solves most of what a Gulf Coast summer throws at you. The hotels on this page are the Houston properties we hold verified details for. Here is what to know before you contact any of them.

The license: a 72-hour wait, and how to skip it

Texas makes you wait 72 hours between the license being issued and the ceremony. The Harris County Clerk says the officiant must sign it no more than 90 days after issue, and a Texas license is valid in any county in the state. So a Harris County license covers a hotel in the suburbs or on the coast as well as downtown, and you don't need to check which county the hotel sits in.

The wait can be waived. Any couple can do it by completing Twogether in Texas, the state's premarital education course: bring the certificate when you apply and the 72 hours goes, and the license fee comes down too. Active-duty military service or a judge's written waiver also qualify. These rules are as of 2026; confirm them with the county clerk before you apply.

Getting guests in: two airports, far apart

Houston has two major airports, and they're on opposite sides of the city. George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) is about 23 miles north of downtown and is the larger of the two. William P. Hobby (HOU) is about 7 miles south of downtown and mainly serves domestic routes. For a downtown hotel, Hobby is the shorter ride for guests flying domestically. For a hotel in the northern suburbs, IAH usually wins. Pick one, name it on your wedding website and give the drive time, because the two airports are about 35 miles apart by road and a guest who books the wrong one faces a long drive across town. Our room block guide covers how many rooms to hold and ask for, and whether the hotel runs an airport shuttle is worth asking before you hire one.

Dates: heat, humidity and hurricane season

August average highs sit in the mid-90s°F, and morning humidity in August typically peaks above 90%. An outdoor ceremony in high summer needs an evening slot, shade and an indoor fallback that is actually held for you. Indoor vs outdoor: what hotels offer lists the questions. If you're choosing between a city ballroom and a resort-style property with grounds, ballroom vs resort weddings sets out the trade-off.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, according to NOAA, with the peak around mid-September and most activity between mid-August and mid-October. That doesn't rule out those months, but it does make two questions essential: what the hotel's contract says if a named storm forces a postponement, and whether your deposit moves with the date. Ask both in writing.

One more Houston-specific check: the George R. Brown Convention Center downtown is one of the country's big convention venues, and a big show can fill downtown hotels. We haven't measured what that does to room-block rates, so we won't guess a figure. Check its event calendar before you fix a date, and ask the hotel whether your weekend overlaps a major event.

Houston, Houston TX, and the rest of the metro

People search this market as "Houston" and "Houston TX" in nine different phrasings, and some ask for the "best hotels for weddings in Houston". All of it is covered on this page. We don't rank hotels as best; we show the ones we hold verified details for. Because the license is valid anywhere in Texas, a hotel outside the city limits is no harder to marry in than one downtown. The real difference is your guests' drive time.

Before you inquire

  • Ask for the food-and-beverage minimum for your specific date and day of the week, and what the package includes. See hotel wedding packages explained.
  • Ask what the contract says about postponement for a named storm between June and November.
  • Ask whether the indoor backup space is reserved for you or only offered if it's free on the day.
  • Check the convention calendar for your weekend.
